American Realtime Court Reporters in Japan
JAPAN CONFERENCE ROOMS
There are two venues available for conducting U.S. depositions in Japan: The U.S. Embassy in Tokyo and the U.S. Consulate in Osaka. Due to limited space and strict procedures surrounding taking a deposition in Japan, it is necessary to get the ball rolling several months in advance.
November 2007: Effective immediately, a new rule is in effect which is producing a positive change for deposing in Osaka. The new rule requires those who have reserved a deposition room to present a court order six weeks before the start date of the deposition. The Consulate will be enforcing this new rule by releasing the deposition room if the court order is not provided and therefore make the room available to another law firm.
This new procedure will enable reservations to be cancelled with enough time for another case to utilize the room, therefore greatly increasing the number of available conference room dates.
For the full text of the new rule, please click on the Osaka link below.
Although all three conference rooms may be booked for the period you need at the time of your inquiry, there is a high cancellation rate and rooms do become available frequently. When depositions cancel, typically our services are cancelled before the Embassy or Consulate is notified. Therefore, we receive advanced notice of upcoming room availability and can assist you in reserving the cancelled room.
Furthermore, as we are located right next-door to the U.S. Consulate in Osaka, we are able to obtain up-to-the-minute information and keep you informed.
